PDF Rendering with HTML5

A good idea is born from Andreas Gal. What a natural progression indeed– HTML5 as a platform for delivering the precision page layout only found in a PDF. Yes, with all the progress the web has made over the years, it’s capabilities for controlling layout and typography are unmatched in comparison to the PDF format.

Notational Iconography

If the recent update to Notational Velocity isn’t enough for you, this new icon is sure to impress.

This is my favorite note taking app for the Mac but their original icon was just plain awful. The new icon design is quite nice! Thank you Taylor Carrigan.

iWork for iPad Improves File Transfer

Version 1.2 of iWork for iPad

Apple finally addresses the weak file transfer capability in iWork for iPad. Version 1.2 allows you transfer file to and from iDisk as well as WebDAV servers. A welcome change.

Notational Velocity

For those of who use Notational Velocity, this custom version offers some brilliant enhancements: Full-screen mode, vertical layout, menubar icon, etc. I just wish it would magically replace the awful icon with something that’s not straight out of the ’90′s.

For those you not hip to the power of having instantaneous access to your often ephemeral, yet narrowly notated thoughts, dreams, nightmares and ruminations, all with the convenience of cloud syncing, just go get it. Then go get simplenote for your iOS device and your notes will magically follow you everywhere.

I made a key customization to my installation:

Full screen mode: I like it to match the keyboard command that Pages uses so I changed the keyboard command to invoke full screen to Command + Option + U. From  Menu / System Preferences / Keyboard / Keyboard Shortcuts. Click + and choose Notational Velocity then type Toggle Fullscreen Mode and type the keyboard shortcut.
